Heya! First and foremost, welcome, and thanks for checking out my portfolio website! In this section I am supposed to tell you a bit about myself, so here is a quick rundown. My name is Joren Bolhuis, born and raised in the Groningen area, The Netherlands. From a young age, I was interested in computer programs and wondered how they were created. It didn’t take too long before I started tinkering with basic HTML/CSS and attempting to mod the game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Looking back, it wasn’t much, but at the time it was the best thing ever. The possibility to change up the rules of the game was an easy way of convincing me to pursue my studies in game development.

At the age of 16, I took an MBO course called Game Architecture and Design at the Alfa College in Groningen, with a focus on programming. After I completed these studies, I didn’t feel quite ready to enter the job market, so I decided to move across the country to enter the Bachelor of Creative Media & Game Technologies at the Breda University of Applied Sciences, again with a focus on programming. During that period, I landed an internship at Triumph Studios, and shortly after that I was hired. You can check out the projects I worked on over on the Projects page.

Recently, my partner and I decided to leave the busy city behind and trade it in for the quieter countryside. We swapped concrete buildings for trees so we can live a more conscious life and focus on the things that really matter to us. For me, that means spending time in nature: hiking through the forest or swimming in the lake. When I’m not lost to the magic of nature, you can find me meditating, doing yoga or qi gong, playing video games, reading, cooking (bonus points if it’s on a campfire), or oil painting. These hobbies are what keep me grounded, inspired and creatively charged.
